Nine Canadian Nurses Join CHAI’s Internship Programme
Nine students holding BSc Nursing degree from Lawrence’s Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto , Canada joined the Internship Programme conducted by CHAI from July 7th 2014 to August 2nd 2014 to get an exposure to various global health issues as well as accessing placement opportunities in the Indian Health Care setting.The Internship Programme began with a two-day orientation programme held at CHAI central office. In a formal meeting held with students, the Director-General of CHAI discussed with them the various programmes conducted by CHAI and requested their feedback on them.
The structured Internship programme offers rural, urban, hospital-based and community-based placement opportunities.
- One -week placement at the Urban Health Centre, Borabanda, under the guidance of the faculty of JMJ College of Nursing followed by one-week placement in rural health centre, Manoharabad. Exposure was provided to them by placing them in Toophran Primary Health Centre.
- Placement at Vijay Marie hospital.
- Placement at the Karunalayam Care and Support Centre for Children infected and affected with HIV.
- Students were provided with some hands-on-experience by conducting medical check – ups and diagnostic camps in the school health education camp.
Placements are supervised and guided by highly qualified preceptors from CHAI, JMJ School of Nursing, and Vijaya Marie Hospital.
