Julie was born on 12th, October 1994. Her family consists of father, mother and a sister. Theirs is a poor and small family. Her father doesn’t go for any work because of illness. Her mother does agricultural and household work. Julie suffers from intellectual impairment and her Intelligence quotient (IQ) is 47. Her younger sister Sayali also suffers from the same disability. Both of them are studying in Jeevdan Special School. Their economic needs are met by their uncle. Julie is physically healthy and she keeps herself neat and clean. Her speech and hearing ability is good. Her gross and fine motor skills are normal.
Not being aware of her disability, her parents sent her to a public Marathi school. As she could not cope with studies, she was admitted to Jeevdan Special School at the age of twelve. And she knew only a few letters of Marathi alphabet. An Individual Rehabilitation Plan was set for her, which included special education, play therapy and socialization. After a few years, she improved a lot. Now she can read and write Marathi and also knows basic maths.
She is totally independent in all self-help skills and also helps others. And she is ready to help anyone. She participates in dance and sports events and has won many prizes. She also sings well.
Nineteen year-old Julie is now being trained in different vocational skills. She can make rakhi, colour greeting cards and make small floor mats etc. At home she helps her mother in washing vessels and clothes, cleaning, sweeping and cooking food etc. After completion of her training she plans to find a job to support her family and help those in need. Julie’s family is very much thankful to Liliane Foundation for supporting her education and rehabilitation process.
