Technical-support Visit to Kanyakumari by CHAI-Axshya Project Team
Dr Srinivas Rao, National Programme Manager, CHAI Axshya-Project, along with Mr Joltin Rappai, Assistant Programme Manager and Mr Benjamin, District Coordinator, undertook a technical support visit to Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu. Dr Srinivas Rao interacted with the District Collector Mr S Nagarajan, IAS, and Dr Dorai, the District TB Officer on the implementation of the project which is being carried out in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu since 2010.
Dr Srinivas Rao lauded the good work being done. The District Coordinator strives hard to eradicate TB by working closely with various non-governmental organizations, TB Forum, and Community Volunteers. Various Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) schemes are being implemented. Lots of awareness programmes are carried out to sensitize the vulnerable and marginalized people on this deadly disease.
Scores of TB positive cases are identified and are directed to Designated Microscopy Centres (DMCs) and subsequently put on DOTs treatment. Dr Srinivas Rao thanked the District Collector and the District Tuberculosis Officer for their sincere support.
In the course of his visit, Dr. Srinivas Rao met with Mrs Jayanthi of the MNGOs Cadre India, Mr Francis of Resource Centre, and Mr Sivakumar of Voluntary Health Association of Kanyakumari (VHAK) .
On his return, Dr Srinivas Rao participated at the State RNTCP Quarterly Review Meeting at Thiruvananthapuram where he made a presentation on the accomplishments of the Sate RNTCP in controlling tuberculosis incidence.
