Advocacy

Peoples Health Movement

CHAI is a key member of the Indian chapter of the International People’s Health Movement, a worldwide movement for advocacy to establish health and equitable development as top priorities through comprehensive Primary Health Care and action on social determinants of health.

CHAI has made is huge presence across the country as a strong weapon to advocate with the government and other stake holders in issues of health as a right for all. Through our Medak People’s Health Forum we undertook a series of initiatives to improve the health status of the people in the Medak district in Andhra Pradesh. Women’s groups were formed to identify health issues of women and children and conduct Health awareness programmes with focus on women and children, with respect to breastfeeding, nutrition, and immunization. District Health Action Forum was formed as a structure and strategy in 15 states of India for bringing together stakeholders like governments, NGOs, Academics Activists, and Civil Society Organizations for the purpose of reviewing the performance of health services, healthcare challenges and gaps, and undertaking corrective measures. Our health advocacy initiative Improving Health in India undertakes issue-based advocacy at the grassroots, state and national levels aiming at forcing Government to take corrective measures. The Project is almost a nation-wide initiative reaching to over 500 villages.
